L.A. Beerfest 2012

One of the greatest things about L.A. is the food festivals and the love for them. From food trucks to beer festivals, there is always one every month. It may not be Octoberfest but here in L.A., Drink Eat Play brings you something better, the L.A. Beerfest.  While I attended this event as a beer pourer, I got my share of fun and excitement on this warm sunny California day.

The event was held at the backlot of Paramount Studios creating a massive 5 acre festival filling the recreation of New York Streets in the heart of California entertainment. As volunteers, we were able to park for free in the "special lot" closest to the studio whereas all other event attendees had to pay for parking in the structure nearby.  Upon checking in at the volunteer table, the Mister and I immediately asked to be put as close together as possible. The organizers were accommodating and assigned us to pour beer at the Original Sin Cider booth.  Upon arrival, we immediately started working for two reasons;  the vendor we are pouring for was not scheduled to be present at the event AND we were actually pouring straight from bottles, which were to be kept cold in large tubs of ice, rather than from a keg or ice chests with already chilled beer.  Am I complaining? Heck no! We had a GREAT time at the event! It's amazing how friendly everyone was, even prior to being intoxicated. The best part was how many compliments I received for my Pink Floyd shirt (see below). I think the Mister got a bit jealous of all the attention I was getting (LOL).

To our surprise, Original Sin Cider was one of the popular drinks at this beer festival. I think partly due to the fact that it's so sweet and easy to drink but unbeknownst to some, it actually contains 6% alcohol which is more than some of the beers out there. During the event, there were slow times but mostly stayed pretty busy. The location of our booth was just right with the stage of live musical performers just across from us. There were no shortages of characters in attendance with goofy costumes and lots of personality. We started out with approximately 50 cases of beer, each case containing 24 bottles, and each bottle pours about 3-4 servings. Needless to say, we worked our butts off!

There were plenty of food trucks onsite to service the attendees but as working staff for the event, we were lucky enough to get free In-N-Out. For our hardworking ethics at this festival, we were given a pass to the Septemberfest to be held in Santa Monica. Looking forward to it!
